American Friends Of Jamaica

The American Friends of Jamaica Inc. exists to support the efforts of local non-governmental organizations that provide this assistance to Jamaicans in need. We are a charitable 501(c)(3) organization built on the principles of service and philanthropy; and have been established to render assistance in the areas of education, health, and economic development.  All donations to the AFJ are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

The AFJ manages disbursements for two types of grants:

a. Discretionary grants are awarded after a rigorous application process and selected from a pool of applicants by the AFJ Grants Committee

b. Earmarked grants are awards for which the donors have requested their gifts be designated for a specific organization.

AFJ Grants Policy

SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Request is aligned with AFJ mission
  2. Request addresses a need in education, healthcare, human and economic development sectors
  3. Costs represent Fair Market Value of services/products
  4. Decisions made free of external influence
  5. Requestor must produce completed application (application form attached)
  6. Financial support should not be offered to an individual
  7. Sufficient funds
  8. Reputable Board of Directors and Leadership of the organization

For donations made to the AFJ, a 3% administrative fee will be deducted from all restricted funds in addition to any credit card and wire transfer fees.
