In December, Crayons Count is promoting play.
Research has proved that play is critical in the early years to help children learn and develop – critical thinking, creativity, fine and gross motor skills etc. In the words of Maria Montessori “Play is the work of a child”
Importantly too, play is a right, by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. By article 31: Children have a right to relay, play and to join in a wide range of leisure activities (Source: UNICEF) . See dogoodjamaica.org/childrensrights for more information.
With children at home for the holidays and gifts to be given for the season, we’re going to spread the word about how important play is and share suggestions of fun educational activities and gifts. Stay tuned to our blog and social media accounts for some great information.
